Burrito Libre Surprisingly Satisfying

Burrito in a Bowl
Burrito Libre, located on the University of Alberta campus, although I had walked past it many times, I’d never had an inclination to actually go inside. But a tweet up organized by @CaitWills, which included mooself, @andrealauder, @toogood_PR, @alpinejcobb, and @debhammacher, finally gave me an excuse to try it out.

Small Space
Although a small space, they have crammed as many tables as humanly possible into the restaurant, which was quite busy at lunch. They must also experience long line ups on a regular basis, as arrows are posted along the wall, letting patrons know how much longer it will be until they reach the till to order.

Wait Time Arrows
If you’ve never been there before, the menu boards guide you step by step on how to order. You can choose from a burrito, a burrito in a bowl, salad, tacos (both hard and soft), and quesadillas. On @CaitWills experienced advice, I opted for a burrito in a bowl, hoping it’d be less messy than trying to eat a wrapped burrito. You first choose your protein, your starch, sauces, and finally the vegetables. I chose chicken and rice topped with crispy lettuce, tomato salsa, onions, hearty beans, guacamole, sour cream, and finished with a spicy salad dressing. Although none of the components on their own are anything to rave about, mixed together you get a wonderful and harmonious blend of tastes and texture, ranging from spicy to cool, crispy and soft. A medium burrito in a bowl might not seem like enough food when you first receive it, but I can assure you that it is very very filling.

I would definitely go back to Burrito Libre as there are many different combinations one could try, at a reasonable price.
